The Abundance Mentality

THOMAS MOORE
See I don't think it has to be grand, the soul. But you have to have a heart and to be doing your work with that heart. And just standing out of the way, incredible things happen as a result of it. Unpredictable things.

DAVID WHYTE
Your courage is literally your great heartedness. So how much heart can you bring to whatever you're doing?

Heart often means the willingness to be vulnerable, open, and fail. And if you cannot fail, if you cannot open yourself out, then much of experience is barred to you. Because half of life means giving, has to do with giving ourselves over to powers greater than ourselves, and learning who we are in that light.

STEPHEN COVEY
Humility, courage, integrity. What's the grandchildren? Wisdom, and the abundance mentality. Why wisdom? Proportion. A sense of good judgment. And the abundance mentality means that you see life as an ever-growing resource. Its not a scarce resource like a piece of pie. It gets larger and larger through synergistic interaction with other people. You produce more wealth, better ideas, more ideas, more harmony. New levels of love, new levels of love at a deep charity level, not the giving kind of charity only, but the kind of love that nurtures the growth and development of other people.

MARK VICTOR HANSEN
I think the banquet of life is totally available to each and every one of us. And most of us need to hear the stories that it's there and that other people have overcome their trauma, their travail, their tragedy, their withhold, their stuckedness. And if they burst through, and if they went through their fiery hoops, you and I can too.

MARIANNE WILLIAMSON
Sometimes we feel despair because we feel that we are knocking on all those doors and those doors aren't open to me. That is a paradigm where we are looking for a place in the world for ourselves. The new paradigm is where we are looking for a place in ourselves for the world. When we fall in love with the world, we rise up. And we are given what is called in traditional Christian theology "The gift of the holy spirit." That is how we gain charisma, which was initially a spiritual term. It means “of the spirit.” From that place you sparkle and from that place you will be employed.

When we begin to see that every situation and every relationship is an opportunity to either be the noble more compassionate, more enlightened person that we are capable of being. Or shutting down, going into greed, jealousy, narcissism, manipulation, control. Whatever. Mean spiritedness, pride. Whatever we choose. And then we recognize that every moment we will choose one or the other, and those moments make up our lives...

STEPHEN COVEY
Don't keep pulling up the flowers to see how the roots are coming. Be patient. You can't violate these processes. Like the law of the farm, you have to plant, and nurture, and weed and water. Then the harvest. You can't go into a crisis mode. There is no quick fix. There is no cramming system that will work. To emotionally get settled on this is humility. And what courage it takes to live that way. And what integrity it produces. When people think they're doing all this and they have a sense of futility, of hopelessness, of futility, its because they really haven't done all this, because it will always produce its harvest. Always.

BERNIE SIEGEL
See its a matter of faith. That's the key. Now if you said, faith in what? The answer is in everything - right wrong, good bad, up down, east west, north south, inside outside. Then you lose the judgment. You have faith. "Thy will be done."

STEPHEN COVEY
The fruits lie inside the character and inside the effort to contribute. And then in some way other things will begin to transpire. They don't lose hope. They have this sense of optimism, a sense of light at the end of the tunnel. I'm going to stay with correct principles, I'm going to contribute to make a difference in my own environment. I'm going to follow correct principles. But they falter all the time, but it doesn't make any difference. I falter all the time. This is a constant struggle. In fact that's when most of the learnings come, by standing apart and observing your own falterings. That's where you get the insights.

BERNIE SIEGEL
You have to achieve a certain thing in life, to bathe your body, mind and spirit in that kind of feeling and sense. So its beyond that, its not something you can achieve artificially. And that's what addicts - and in a sense we're all addicted to something - are searching for. And when you realize you can't get it from any of these things, then you begin to really look for where could I achieve it. Yeah, where do you find it? In the spiritual life, and in the love and in all the things that begin to change you. And then you have a sense of it.
