Follow your Bliss, the Money will Follow

STEPHAN RECHTSCHAFFEN
To paraphrase what Joseph Campbell says: “Follow your bliss, the money will follow”. But I take that to mean that when we are authentic and true to our rhythm, and really follow deeply our passions, then our life opens in front of us.

Now in this opening it becomes clear what we want to do. What we desire to do and where we’re most called to go. I see too many of us that because we have our anxiety related to the future, we have this fear of the future and we tend to wall our self off. And we tend to just mimic the rhythms around us.

We get drawn into, addicted to all the rhythms of the business of life around us which don’t necessarily have anything to do with what we are most authentically drawn to in our being.

And when I begin to look at this, one of the things I feel people don’t do, is they don’t plan enough in their lives. Many of us are caught with thoughts of the futur, anxiety of the future and guilt about the past and as a result we‘re pulled so much between the two that we have very little time to be present.

So when I mention planning, people ask, “Is that in the present moment?” What I’m interested in is in the present moment.

Imagine five years from now, 10 years from now, what do I see there. What is the way that I imagine or envision my life going in all the possible directions, related to work, to relationship, to spiritual growth, to how I’m feeling, what my state of health and well being is and when I create this vision, visualize this image, then that’s what begins to draw me.

It’s not that we write it in stone, rather its like a beacon of light that draws us. As we stay true to our nature then it becomes clear we are drawn to this.

Then if at some point we decide this is not the direction for us, that’s fine in the present moment, we take another look. If its not in this direction its in this direction. Then what’s happening is we’re doing it out of positive visualization of what it is we want to create more strongly in our lives.

Often I find that when we are most attuned to the inner rhythm, most authentic rhythm of ourselves, life opens up to us. We become part of the flow of life. And as we’re in this state of flow we get drawn almost in a magical way to what feels most right for us.

We tend to look to happiness is a particular way, so that we can avoid feeling sad or depressed or allowing any negative feeling. We want happiness to exist in a certain way. Now the trouble is life isn't that way. Life is sometimes this way and sometimes this way. So we what we need to do in this process, in order to try and find the deepest sense of happiness, we need to be open to whatever takes place, which includes our sadness, which includes our upsets, which includes our joy. That’s being authentic.

Because success is not about making money, it's not about fame. It's coming into the authentic being that we are. And it’s that being that understands and experiences the deepest level of happiness.
