Living the Spiritual Path

DAVID WHYTE
The human being cannot live without desire. I need to be around it, and you said, when I say desire, its more like a pull, a kind of beckoning uncertainty, something that says I belong. I'm in the migratory pattern, you know, I'm swimming towards whatever my life is. Without that we shrivel up and die, and we'll do anything to have someone artificially resuscitate us.

But what's it like to say whatever path I can take, whatever step as long as its my own, even if its the smallest tiniest step in the world, if its my own step then that's a true step.

THOMAS MOORE
So I have learned is that if my life is any measure of anyone else's, and I don't know if it is, I really don't, that the things I really strived for and tried so hard to get, if I work at them, may come eventually, but they don't come from the striving. They come from the work, certainly. I mean I was quite loyal to whatever it was I wanted to do during those years. But there are graces. That's the word I learned when I was in school, in Catholic school, was that life ... these things in life are a grace. They come unasked for. They appear and you treasure them as long as you have them. But they may go away. And so you have this great feeling of profound gratitude for what you have, and you remain loyal to your instincts and intuitions as you go along, if you don't have the abundance and you have hope. But I don't... as far as I can tell, it doesn't make much sense to work too hard at it, to be anxious about it. It may come. It may not come. I really.. there's no way of knowing. But you don't get.. you don't measure your life by it.

BERNIE SIEGEL
The hard part is living the spiritual path today. And understanding, as I said, having faith in everything, using things to be redirected, watching one door close and another door open. So you're not judgmental. It's like trying to describe what something tastes like. Can you put into words what something tastes like? So I say, when you are on the spiritual path you know it.

And I hope that people will burn up so when life is over the candle is used totally.
